DWS has committed about $162 million to acquire renewable energy platform Cleanwatts, aiming to expand decentralized renewable energy communities in Portugal. Cleanwatts develops local renewable generation close to consumption sites, supporting self consumption, electrification, and emissions reduction for businesses and households. The investment reflects growing confidence in distributed renewable energy and aligns with Portugal’s national energy and climate targets through 2030.
This investment highlights the increasing role of decentralized energy systems in the energy transition, allowing companies and communities to produce and consume renewable electricity locally. Renewable energy communities can reduce grid dependence, improve energy resilience, and support measurable emissions reductions, making them an attractive solution for organizations seeking long term energy sustainability.
