New York State will require large emitters to report their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions starting in June 2027 for the 2026 calendar year. The rule applies to entities emitting 10,000+ metric tons of CO₂ equivalent per year, including power plants, fuel suppliers, landfills, and other industrial sources. While the program focuses on data collection rather than emission reductions, it provides regulators with a clearer picture of statewide emissions to support climate planning and policy.
Certain large sources will need third-party verification to ensure data accuracy, and an online reporting platform will simplify compliance. The initiative strengthens state-level climate leadership, filling gaps left by federal reporting changes and promoting transparency in New York’s efforts to meet its climate goals.
The World Bank and African Development Bank have partnered to electrify 300 million people in Africa by 2030, which could halve the number of people in Africa living without electricity access.
