Netflix has entered into a 15-year agreement to purchase verified carbon credits from the American Forest Foundation’s (AFF) Fields & Forests (F&F) program, which implements afforestation, reforestation, and revegetation (ARR) projects in the U.S. South. Under this deal, Netflix will provide milestone prepayments – funding tied to key project metrics like acres enrolled – to help launch the first 6,000 acres and accelerate expansion into underserved family lands. AFF shoulders operational duties, covering site prep, tree planting, and ongoing support, while landowners commit to 30-year contracts and receive annual payments.
To date, F&F has enrolled 2,500 acres, with plans to plant 1.4 million trees and has disbursed $2 million in direct payments to landowners. The long-term target is to reach 75,000 acres by 2032, producing an estimated 4.8 million carbon credits while supporting rural landowners in the U.S. South. This partnership underscores Netflix’s strategy of coupling internal emissions reductions with investments in nature-based solutions, and it may set a model for how major buyers can structure credible, long-term carbon credit deals that also benefit landowners.
