At the beginning of April, 2025, B Lab released a new set of standards for B Corp Certification, marking the most substantial revision in its 19-year history. These new standards aim to provide clear, actionable guidance for businesses to address urgent social and environmental challenges, such as climate change and inequality. Replacing the previous point-based scoring system, the updated standards require all B Corps to meet performance thresholds across seven critical Impact Topics: Purpose & Stakeholder Governance, Climate Action, Human Rights, Fair Work, Environmental Stewardship & Circularity, Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI), and Government Affairs & Collective Action. This shift promotes holistic impact management and increased transparency, setting a new benchmark for responsible business practices.
Developed through a multi-year stakeholder consultation, the standards align with global frameworks such as GRI, SBTi, and Fairtrade. They emphasize long-term accountability, with B Corps required to demonstrate progress at three- and five-year milestones.
The World Bank and African Development Bank have partnered to electrify 300 million people in Africa by 2030, which could halve the number of people in Africa living without electricity access.
