Mercedes-Benz has opened a new battery recycling plant in Kuppenheim, Germany, aimed at recovering up to 96% of key materials like lithium, nickel, and cobalt. These materials will be reused in new electric vehicle batteries, contributing to the company’s circular economy strategy.
The plant, supported by the German government and academic partners, features innovative, low-energy processes and runs on 100% renewable energy. This initiative aligns with Mercedes-Benz’s broader “Ambition 2039” plan, targeting carbon neutrality across its vehicle lifecycle by 2039.
The Council and the European Parliament have provisionally agreed on the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), a regulatory framework aimed at bolstering Europe’s net-zero technology products manufacturing ecosystem.
